If you're hearing this message, that means you're probably subscribing to the Feedburner RSS feed for Dave's Lounge. Unfortunately, something broke between Feedburner and Bluehost last week, and because of that, I've decided to stop using Feedburner as the official feed for Dave's Lounge.

So if you want to continue listening to Dave's Lounge, please subscribe to the new official feed, which is:

I apologize for the confusion, and I hope you'll continue visiting Dave's Lounge in the future. Thanks.

All of the music from this week's show comes from artists based in the San Francisco area. Many of them perform at a new event called Shift/Tilt in the Bay Area. Click here for more info on upcoming Shift/Tilt events.

The opening quote is lifted from Warren Ellis' seminal comic epic Transmetropolitan, which is a vile, disgusting and utterly brilliant piece of writing. I've been told Warren, who's from England, loves the city of San Francisco. I really need to get out there one of these days...

I've made a little progress on the Wordpress installation -- and a big thank you goes out to Evgeniy Kaschenko and everyone else who emailed to help -- but I haven't had a chance to work on it this weekend, as I hosted my first Wii party on Friday, which was a huge success, and spent the rest of the weekend either sleeping it off or working on other web sites.

In the meantime, I've decided to point the daveslounge.com home page directly to the old Liberated Syndication page, which should let me work on the new site in the background. It will also let me put together the next show in the meantime. I hope to have the new site ready in the next week or two.

Thanks for being patient with me, folks.

Folks,

I've been busy putting together the new Wordpress-based Dave's Lounge web site since the weekend, so I haven't been able to put a show together this week. At some point in the next few days I plan to move the site onto its new platform, and it will probably be a little messy for a few days. Trust me, though -- it'll be worth it when it's done.

Further announcements are forthcoming...

All the music in this week's playlist comes from the Magnatune compilation Downtempo Chill by DJ Cary. The artists are all part of the Magnatune label, which promotes independent artists with a shareware-style "try before you buy" model. You can listen to entire albums on their web site and choose how much you want to pay for each album. It's a fairly unique model, and that's kind of a shame, really.

Click here for the full compilation.

In the interest of full disclosure, Magnatune is not paying me for any sales. They did, however, give me full access to their music catalog, which is podsafe, though you'll need to contact Magnatune to download MP3s for podcast play. Click here for more info.

Playlist for Dave's Lounge #72:

  1. Mr. Epic, "Rough and Tumble"
  2. Cargo Cult, "Re-entry"
  3. Drop Trio, "Slap Jack"
  4. Shiva in Exile, "Breathing"
  5. TranceVision, "Enertia"
  6. Falling You, "The Art of Possession"

Enjoy the show!

I've decided that it's time to make some major changes to the Dave's Lounge web site. These changes will take place some time in the next two weeks. I will attempt to do this without disrupting the current RSS feed, but I can't make any guarantees on this. Keep an eye (and an ear) out for details...

This week's opening monologue was somewhat inspired by this post by Danah Boyd. I met Danah a year and a half ago at a podcasting seminar at Duke University. She writes some very interesting stuff about social media and its impact on our culture. Worth seeking out if you have the time.

Playlist for Dave's Lounge #71:

  1. Return to Mono, "Song for Sleepers" Buy from: iTunes | CD Baby
  2. Stockfinster, "Dismantled"
  3. Ammonite, "Adoring" Buy from: Magnatune
  4. Slusnik Luna, "Azure Breeze"
  5. Peach Stealing Monkeys, "Beautiful Life"
  6. Morcheeba, "Lighten Up" Buy from: iTunes | Amazon
